The Pump House, Rectory Wood
An 18th-century Gothic folly, later used to pump the local water supply, now a landmark in Rectory Wood nature reserve. For Church Stretton Town Council, we rebuilt the side walls to support the gable end, using stone recovered from the stream and the drained pool in the wood itself, laid in an NHL 5 lime mortar with Blaenavon sand.
Access into the wood was very limited, but with help from the Council’s grounds team we got our kit and security fencing on site, and the stonework is now stabilised for years to come.

“We've used Alex now for a few jobs, but his last was the most impressive. The wall in question is over 40m in length, and had collapsed in a few places. It was amazing to see the wall coming down and being rebuilt bit by bit. He added new drainage holes which the old wall didn't have, and straightened the whole wall. It's an incredible skill to watch him chip away at a boulder to then fit it perfectly in place. His workmanship is excellent, and works non stop, even through the heat of last summer. Yes. We re-point and build with lime-based mortars as well as dry stone techniques, taking mortar samples so repairs match the original.

Yes. Our Shropshire workshop hand-masons window sills, mullions, coping stones, plinths, staddle stones, fireplaces, door surrounds and porticos, from single components to complete structures.
